Am I a good candidate for a facelift?

Men and women who want to improve visible signs of aging in their face and/or neck are candidates for a facelift procedure. Like all plastic surgery procedures, a facelift is reserved for patients who are healthy, do not smoke, have no serious medical conditions, and have a positive mindset and realistic expectations.

What are the benefits of a facelift (rhytidectomy)?

The two most common visible signs of facial aging are drooping of the face and loss of facial volume. Patients who wish to combat these changes may do so by having a facelift to reposition, lift, and tighten their facial skin. Recent research has shown that following a facelift, patients may be perceived as looking up to ten years younger. One of the key factors that helps patients receive this tremendous type of result is choosing a surgeon such as Dr. Weber who is a facelift veteran.

  • Corrects facial sagging and drooping
  • Improvement in facial creases and folds
  • Improves the facial expression
  • Can help reduce a double chin (submental fat)
  • Can help tone sagging jowls
  • Rolls back the clock on aging
  • Improves one’s self-confidence
  • A natural, nuanced outcome
  • Minimal scarring
  • Expedited downtime
  • A personalized approach
  • Creates a better first impression
  • Improves one’s image in photographs and on camera

What can I expect from a facelift with Dr. Weber?

Dr. Weber’s goal when performing a facelift in Denver, CO is to create a natural, youthful, and rested appearance. He achieves this goal by carefully listening to his patients and giving them surgical options that meet their needs, desires, and goals. While using an individualized approach, Dr. Weber is able to create the perfect facelift procedure for each of his patients. The two most common facelift methods Dr. Weber uses are a mini facelift and a comprehensive facelift.

The decision regarding which method to use is based on the laxity of the patient’s skin and the signs of aging that the patient is looking to address. Generally, a mini facelift is used to improve early signs of aging and a comprehensive facelift is used to improve multiple signs of aging that usually occur later in life.

What does the facelift procedure entail?

Dr. Weber performs the vast majority of these procedures in the office surgical suite using local anesthesia and a small amount of oral sedation. However, for our patients that want to “go to sleep,” rhytidectomy procedures can be performed at an accredited ambulatory surgery center under general anesthesia where you will be monitored throughout the procedure by an Anesthesiologist.

Once the patient is comfortable, Dr. Weber performs the procedure through the following steps:

  • An incision is beneath the hairline. The incision starts below the “sideburn” and runs along the curve of the ear.
  • Muscles and tissues are tightened and fat is restored to areas of the face that have lost volume.
  • The skin is draped over the tightened muscles and tissues and the incision is carefully closed using delicate sutures.

After the incisions are closed, a dressing is placed around the face to provide support and to minimize swelling during the early healing phases. Dr. Weber occasionally uses a drain for his Denver facelift procedures. Typical procedure time is 1.5-3 hours.

Facelift FAQs

Can a facelift be combined with other procedures?

A facelift can be combined with other procedures, including the following:

Administration of dermal fillers and cosmetic injectables can also be incorporated into your facelift procedure. Typical reasons for combining a facelift with other procedures include addressing multiple issues during one surgical procedure, possibly reducing surgical costs, and maximizing one’s facial appearance.

Are there ways to maximize the results of a facelift?

Results can be maximized by simply taking care of one’s skin following the procedure. Applying sun protection and medical grade skincare products ensures that the skin stays protected and healthy and that results from surgery last. Patients who wish to maximize their results are also encouraged to maintain an active lifestyle and healthy diet.

When will my stitches be taken out?

Stitches are typically taken out at the second postoperative appointment, which occurs 5 days after surgery.

Will I have a visible scar?

Every incision creates a scar. However, the incisions Dr. Weber makes for a facelift are carefully and strategically placed so that the postsurgical scar is hidden in the sideburn area, within the ear canal, and along the back of the ear. The incisions are also repaired meticulously and without tension on the skin edges, creating delicate-looking incisions. In nearly all cases, scars go completely unnoticed.

When can I return to work? When can I start exercising?

Patients are usually allowed to return to work and full activity 5 days after surgery.

What is a “turkey neck”? Can a facelift improve it?

“Turkey neck” is a term used to describe loose, baggy skin on the neck that is caused by sagging of the lower face and the appearance of jowls. If you are concerned about having a turkey neck, Dr. Weber will examine your neck and give you a list of treatment options that can improve your appearance. One treatment option that can remove a turkey neck is a facelift and necklift.

How do I know if I need a mini facelift or a comprehensive facelift?

A mini facelift is used to correct early signs of aging and a comprehensive facelift is used to correct multiple signs of aging. A mini lift is highly effective for aging in the cheeks and jawline area while a more comprehensive lift procedure is usually required to remedy aging in the neck area. Determining which procedure is right for you is something that will be done at your initial consultation with Dr. Weber.

What is the typical age of patients who have facelifts?

Facelifts are commonly performed on patients ranging anywhere from 40 to 80 years old.

Do I have to stop smoking to have a facelift?

Smoking interferes with the body’s healing processes and should be stopped at least two weeks before and after surgery. Patients who wish to resume smoking after surgery should make note that smoking will decrease their results.

Will I be able to see before and after photos of patients that may be similar to me?

Of course! One of Dr. Weber’s top priorities is making sure you know exactly what type of results you can expect. He will be able to show you before and after photos of his facelift patients very similar to you.

Are there risks associated with a facelift?

There are risks associated with all surgical procedures. However, many patients find that the benefits of a facelift far outweigh the risks associated with the procedure. Before you make the decision to undergo a facelift, Dr. Weber will go over all of the risks and potential complications.

How do I choose a plastic surgeon I can trust?

Board certified plastic surgeons who excel in facial procedures are the most qualified plastic surgeons to perform facelifts. Thanks to his meticulous attention to detail and artistic vision, Dr. Weber delivers among the best facelift results in the country.

What is the cost of a facelift

Are there nonsurgical treatment options to improve visible signs of facial aging?

How do I determine if I am a surgical candidate?

Additionally, surgery is only recommended when patients have realistic expectations regarding their recovery and results. If you would like to find out if you are a surgical candidate, the first step to take is to schedule your initial consultation with Dr. Weber.
