Why consider a brow lift with Dr. Weber?

A browlift is a surgical procedure that remedies a drooping brow by lifting, shaping, and repositioning the eyebrows. Dr. Stephen Weber is a double board-certified Facial Plastic Surgeon in Denver, CO who performs customized browlifts to help patients meet their aesthetic goals.

A drooping brow occurs as part of the normal aging process. Factors like stress, smoking, and genetics can cause brow drooping to occur earlier than patients would like. In many cases, a browlift is the only way to correct a drooping brow and rejuvenate the eye area. Patients who have severe aging of the eyes may need to combine their Denver brow lift with a blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery) for a complete rejuvenation effect.

What is Dr. Weber’s approach to a brow lift?

Dr. Weber performs brow lifts as outpatient procedures in an ambulatory surgical center. General anesthesia may be used to perform the procedure.

A board-certified anesthesiologist administers IV sedation or general anesthesia medications and monitors the patient throughout the procedure to make sure they are comfortable or completely asleep and feel no pain. The steps used to perform the procedure are as follows:

  • Incisions are carefully and strategically placed behind the hairline to prevent the appearance of a noticeable scar from forming after surgery.
  • Weak muscle and loose skin are carefully separated from the forehead bone. The brow is gently lifted and secured to the forehead using absorbable fixation anchors.
  • Incisions are closed using dissolvable sutures. Dr. Weber carefully closes incisions so they heal properly and do not form a noticeable scar. Total procedure time is approximately 60 minutes.

What will my recovery be like?

Patients are brought to the postoperative recovery room after their procedure. They are monitored by an anesthesia doctor or nurse while the effects of sedation or anesthesia medications wear off. Pain medications are given if patients feel any discomfort or pain. After patients are completely awake and alert and their pain is managed, they may be driven home by a family member or friend.

Dr. Weber gives all his patients at-home recovery instructions before their procedure. He advises patients to have someone stay with them for the first 24 hours after surgery. Patients return for their first postoperative appointment 24 hours following surgery and again 5 days after their procedure. Patients are usually cleared to return to work and normal activities after their five-day follow-up appointment.

What are the different types of brow lifts?

  • Endoscopic Brow Lift - This procedure is done using a narrow tube with a camera at the end of it called an endoscope. As the least invasive brow lift option, the endoscopic approach produces minimal recovery time because the incisions are behind the hairline and are very small. It is increasingly becoming the most popular approach amongst cosmetic surgeons.
  • Coronal Brow Lift- An exact amount of the scalp tissue and fat is removed and the forehead and eyebrows are lifted. The incision is made behind the hair line and heals to a small scar. This was once the more standard technique, but it is still used for more comprehensive lifting and rejuvenation.
  • Tricophytic/Hairline Lift- This procedure is more common with men or woman with a high hairline. The incision is made at the hair line and in this case, the hairline does not move, the skin is removed and the forehead is lifted. This brings about a smoother forehead as well as lifted eye brows.
  • Direct or Mid-Forehead Lift - In a Direct Brow Lift procedure the incision is made just above the eyebrow and provides the most direct elevation of the lateral eyebrow. In a Mid-Forehead Lift the incision is made within the furrows (wrinkles) of the forehead.
