How do PRP injections work?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a safe and effective facial rejuvenation treatment option. Dr. Stephen Weber is a double board certified Facial Plastic Surgeon in Denver, CO, who uses PRP injections in Denver to provide his patients with treatment results that match their aesthetic goals.

PRP therapy involves taking blood from a patient, separating the blood into red blood cell and PRP components, and injecting the PRP component back into the patient. Fine lines, wrinkles, and scars can all be improved using PRP therapy. PRP therapy can also be used to promote healing and speed recovery after many facial aesthetic treatments.

Who makes a good candidate for the procedure?

Men and women who wish to improve the appearance of their face may be candidates for PRP therapy. The procedure is generally performed on patients who have a positive mindset, realistic goals, and no serious medical conditions.

Patients who have skin conditions may not be candidates for the procedure. Patients who smoke are advised to stop before and after their procedure because smoking interferes with the body’s natural healing processes.

The definitive way for patients to determine their candidacy is to attend an initial consultation with Dr. Weber in Denver.

Review - PRP

What are the details of the procedure?

Dr. Weber administers PRP as an outpatient procedure in one of his comfortable office procedure suites. No anesthesia or IV sedation is necessary. Topical numbing cream is applied so the patient does not feel pain or discomfort. The steps used to carry out the procedure are as follows:

  • Blood is gently drawn from the patient’s arm using a small needle and syringe.
  • The blood is placed in a centrifuge and separated into red blood cell and PRP components.
  • Tiny needle pricks are made over facial areas where PRP is to be administered.
  • After PRP has been administered, no stitches, dressings or adhesives are required. In most cases, the procedure only takes about fifteen minutes.

What can I expect from recovery for PRP injections?

Patients are able to leave the office and return to normal activities shortly after their procedure. Some swelling and redness may be seen after the procedure but will quickly go away. Ice may be used to help speed up the process. The average total recovery time for the procedure is less than one day.

What will my results be like?

PRP provides nutrition and rehydrates the skin. It also repairs and rejuvenates damaged and aged tissues. Patients typically see marked improvements in the appearance of their face shortly after their procedure. Depending on the condition of the patient and their aesthetic goals, multiple treatments may be used. Typically, treatments are spaced at one-month intervals.
