Lower eyelid surgery, also called lower blepharoplasty, smooths puffiness, bags and hollows beneath the eyes to restore a rested, refreshed look. It is one of the most requested facial procedures for patients who feel their under-eye area looks tired even when they feel well.
What Is Lower Eyelid Surgery?
Lower eyelid surgery is a procedure that removes, repositions or redistributes fat and, when needed, tightens skin beneath the eyes to reduce bags, puffiness or hollowing. Dr. Weber may use a transconjunctival approach, made through an incision inside the lower lid, or a transcutaneous approach, made through a small incision just below the lash line, depending on how much skin needs to be addressed. Rather than simply removing fat, many modern lower blepharoplasty techniques reposition it to fill hollow areas and create a smoother transition between the lower lid and cheek. This approach tends to produce a more natural, less hollowed result than older fat-removal-only techniques.
